The Easter holidays are well and truly over, and this morning many of us had to deal with reality as we battled with our kids to get them to school on time.

However, while the first day back is never going to be the nicest, there are definitely PLENTY of positives to the kids returning to school

1. Routine

You beautiful, beautiful thing. Yes, we loved not having to make the lunches in the evening or washing their uniform, but there is just something so comforting about a good routine.

2. Early to bed for the little ones

It’s easy to let normal bedtime slide when the kids aren’t in school, but with all the late nights they were starting to get a little bit tetchy –  back to normal now!

3. Less washing to do

You might FINALLY reach the end of the laundry basket now they aren’t wearing every single item of clothing in their wardrobe…

4. Breakfast is actually at breakfast time

Having your kids rolling out of bed at noon means they are having breakfast FIVE HOURS later than normal. Yes, a lie in is good (every now and then), but pushing everything out of sync means you end up cooking dinner when you would normally be sitting down with a cup of tea!

5. The fridge doesn’t need to be constantly stocked

When kids are bored they tend to eat everything in sight, whether they like it or not. But now they are back at school the fridge will actually stay full longer than a week.

6. They’re actually tired going to bed

No more staying up until nine o’clock because they aren’t tired – school wipes them of all pent up energy.

7. You can respond to cries of “I’m bored” with “go do your homework”

No longer will you have to reply with: “Just turn on the telly then”.

8. You save yourself a fortune

No more camps. No more money for the shops. No more funding their social life with trips to the cinema. After school activities and weekend sport is back so they don’t have time for fun!

9. Sibling rivalry is WAY down

The kids are too busy with homework and sports to care about the fact that someone ‘borrowed’ their new jacket...
