According to numerous emerging reports, ten schoolchildren have been stabbed following a shocking attack outside a primary school in southern China this morning.

It has been established that the children were waiting outside their school gates when the unidentified man launched his attack today in an incident which Chinese authorities have described as "a vicious criminal case brought on by extreme actions."

It is understood that six boys and four girls were the subject of the brutal assault which occurred in the city of Haikou, on the southern island province of Hainan.

According to state broadcaster China Central Television, the assailant then turned the knife on himself and did not survive his injuries.

It has been established that two of the young victims were severely injured in this morning's horrifying incident, but their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Our thoughts are with all those affected by the shocking attack which is the latest in a spate of school attacks across the country.
