BREAKING: Two separate primary schools shut early for Christmas due to Covid spike

Due to a worrying Covid-19 spike amongst students, two primary schools in different counties have decided to close early for Christmas this year.

Claremorris Boys National School in Co. Mayo and the Holy Family Senior School in Portlaoise have finished up the school day today, sending their students home to start their Christmas holidays early, not allowing them to come back until January 6, 2021.

Surprisingly, both schools say they are closing early for completely different reasons. Claremorris Boys National School admit they feel “deeply frustrated at the system adopted by Public Health” who insist that “schools remain open at all costs.”

Meanwhile, the Holy Family Senior School claim to have been ordered to close by Public Health officials. The school’s principal, Roisin Brennan sent out a message to parents this afternoon, explaining, “We have been informed by Public Health that, learning from other cases, it has been decided that the safest way to protect our whole school community is to close the school as and from this evening and reopen on January 6th as planned.

“A more detailed letter from Public Health will be sent later today or in the morning. Public Health say this measure is proactive and not reactive.”
