A 12-year-old boy has been forced to endure lessons in isolation after his head teacher deemed his haircut too short.

Anthony Mousiou, a student at Samuel Ryder Academy in the UK, has been pulled out of class twice to learn on his own after school authorities ruled his haircut to be four-and-a-half millimetres too short.

The student’s father, 44-year-old Evi, has tried unsuccessfully to find another school for his son, and is now making a stand by refusing to make Anthony grow his hair.

Evi believes that Anthony is the victim of bullying, and expressed his frustration at what thinks is a highly unjust punishment.

“It seems like they are picking on him – I have always felt he is being picked on. Their website shows pictures of boys with the hair he has been banned from having,” Evi told the Mirror.

Evi and Anthony have grown increasingly unhappy over the situation, particularly as Evi’s attempts to find another school for his son have been unsuccessful.

“He used to have his hair how he wanted it and there was no problem – he has got good reports for behaviour and everything. It’s really frustrating,” Evi added.

Head teacher Matthew Gauthier has defended the school’s guidelines regarding hair and appearance, saying that Anthony and his fellow pupils were reminded of the six millimetre cut-off at the beginning of the school year.
