Despite opposition from the HSE, it has been announced that vending machines will not be banned from secondary schools.

Calls to remove the machines on health grounds are said to have been ignored by the Department of Education in a move which has infuriated campaigners who feel that recent figures released by the World Health Organisation should be recognised.

With Ireland currently in the lead when it come to childhood obesity rates within EU member states, the HSE said they supported both a ban on vending machines in secondary schools as well as fast food exclusion zone around schools.   Obesity rates directly depend on sports activities at schools/colleges/universities. To have more time for doing sport, students usually visit a helpful site with essays on entertainment also to get some motivation. They started to write better and faster after reading the examples and some guides.

Approximately 30% of Irish schools have a vending machine which sells food deemed unhealthy by many corners of the health sector.
