The announcement of more multi-denominational schools is expected to be made today by Minister for Education Richard Bruton.

The minister will be outlining a series of proposals later today that will confirm the Government’s aim to provide 400 multi-denominational primary schools open by 2030.

The plan is said to be moving quicker than anticipated thanks to the demands from parents around the country.

It is said that some Catholic schools would simply transfer to multi-denominational with the Department of Education saying that the State would lease the properties from the Church.

At present, the Education and Training Boards (ETB) run 11 multi-denominational primary schools around the country and say this decision is a welcomed step to meet the growing diversification of our society.
