With the summer holidays approaching, it is time to start thinking of ways to keep your son or daughter entertained during the time off. However, just because school’s out doesn’t mean your little one has to stop learning - in fact, they can still learn and have fun at the same time. Here are five educational places you can take your child during the summer holidays.

Museums
There are so many museums around with activities suitable for kids. If your little one is into animals why not take them along to the natural history museum. Here they will be introduced to animals that they might not have known existed. Art galleries are also great for educating your child on famous painters and sculptors and will also introduce them to different ways of painting and life before.

Heritage sites
There is bound to be a heritage site near to your home that would interest a child. They are great for helping your little one understand that there was a whole world before even you were born. Many are set outside making them perfect for during the summer months and are usually fairly budget-friendly.

The library
The library is a whole building of information, fun and exploring and uncovering new worlds and eras. There are usually free activities planned for kids during the summer months, such as storytime or arts and crafts, so check out your local library for details.

Family history trip
If you are interested in your family tree, why not bring your little one on a journey of your family's history. If your history spans all over the globe why not make a whole summer project out of it. Not only will your youngsters get to know where they came from, you will no doubt uncover some interesting family facts that you never knew about.

Famous landmarks
Depending on your location, there may be some famous landmarks close by. These can range from where the Pope visited, the Queen stayed over, where famous bands started or where battles took place. Not only are these important for your child to know about, you may have even been there during the historic moment, thus allowing you to let your child in on a part of your life before they came along.
