We have heard of some pretty ridiculous and dangerous ‘trends’ in our time, but the following has to be one of the silliest.
Parents all over the world have been urged to remain vigilant, after a disturbing self-harming trend involving erasers swept social media.
The ‘Eraser Challenge’ calls for ‘players’ – typically school-aged children – to rub an eraser up and down their arm quickly while reciting the alphabet. When they reach the letter ‘Z’, they are supposed to remove the eraser and compare the seriousness of their injuries with another player.
The person with the worst burn marks is then deemed the ‘winner’. We know what you are thinking – how ridiculous.

As crazy as it sounds however, this alarming trend has really gathered momentum online, with kids in their droves uploading videos and photos of their Eraser Challenge injuries.
Now, parents are being warned to remain vigilant and warn their children of the dangers of participating.
While the burns and cuts themselves are bad enough, one student ended up being hospitalised recently after contracting Strep A Toxic Shock from a dirty eraser.
