The BT Travel & Accommodation Grant Scheme has provide financial aid totalling over €300,000 to students taking part in the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition. A total of 835 grants were given to 335 schools across the country in the past seven years. For 2012 the grant budget has been raised to €75,000 per year, so the BT grant is now opening up the competition to a wider number of young people.

Faye Murphy, a 15 year old student from Kinsale Community School who received over €7,000 in financial assistance, says “With the help of this grant, I had the chance to take part in the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition in January and it really made me think about what I want to do in college.  A group of us spent the week there and it opened our eyes to the opportunities that exist for our future. Everyone thought it was amazing”.

Schools which are located over 70km from the RDS in Dublin can apply for a grant of €150 per individual entry or €300 for a group entry, up to a maximum of €1,500 per school.

Colm O’Neill, CEO, BT Ireland says “This grant is an investment in young people, ensuing that they have every opportunity to showcase their talent and can seize the benefits that this excellent exhibition can bring them.”

The closing date for project submissions for the 2013 exhibition is October 1st 2012 and BT is hoping to break a new record for the number of entries.
