The festive holiday is now well and truly over and that means back to school time is just around the corner. While the Christmas break isn’t quite as long as the summer one, it is definitely tough getting back into the early mornings and homework routine again.

Thankfully, with the weekend still to get over, there is plenty of time to get ready for the new term, and the five handy tips will help the pocess.

Back to bed early

If you have been a little lack in your usually strict bed time regime, spend the next three days getting the kids back to their usual schedule. Start by sending them 15 minutes earlier and so on until they are back to their normal time but remember, if they have been getting up later in the mornings they will struggle to sleep, so take it slowly.

Check their homework notebook

Get your child to have a look through their school bag checking for any homework that needed to be done over the holidays, giving it a good clear out while they are at it. This will help get your kids back into the frame of mind for school.

Return to normal eating habits

Christmas time usually involves eating not particularly healthy food whenever hunger strikes, so now is the time to get back into normal eating habits. Spend the last three days giving kids their lunch and dinner at the same time they’ll be getting it next week, that way it won’t be a huge shock to the system come Monday.

Get uniform ready now

Now is the time to wash and iron the uniform to save the Sunday night panic of not being able to find socks. Check for any pulls or rips that need mending and double check your child’s name is still on it – January is definitely not the month to have to start buying lost items.

Discuss new activities

Back to school time is never the most wonderful time of the year for most kids, so get them excited by talking about any new activities they’ll be doing. A new term usually means a chance to sign up to new after school activities, so spend Saturday or Sunday evening talking about things that they will be able to get involved in for the new term. This will give them something positive to think about when they are struggling to get out of bed in the morning on Monday.
