There was an outpouring of tributes from the community when 46-year-old Martin Goldberg, the deputy head of Thorpe Hall School in Southend, was found dead at his home.

Things have taken a sinister turn however as hundreds of images of children have been discovered on a camera at the teacher’s home.

The camera was hidden inside a bag and used to film boys undressing in the schools changing room and at Southend’s leisure centre.

Classified as “indecent” by police, they found 75 images of pupils from the school’s changing rooms, 465 taken at the leisure centre and a further 38 from “two other locations”.

Police state that the images were taken from around 14 years ago, and “would appear to be of boys aged from nine to twelve.”

Police have identified four boys from the images and have contacted their parents.

Martin had been questioned by police the day before his death after an investigation was launched into the purchase of photographs of teenage boys online.

Martin was not arrested as there was insufficient evidence at that time. His death has not been treated as suspicious.
