It's a parent's worst nightmare – their sick child trapped inside an ambulance for nearly an hour.

Dublin Fire Brigade has launched an investigation into how a sick child became locked in an ambulance when it broke down and suffered a power failure.

It has been reported that the ambulance broke down when the child was being rushed to Temple Street Children’s Hospital after suffering an anaphylactic allergic reaction.

Apparently, the power failure caused all of the doors on board to lock, forcing the paramedic to kick out the windows from the inside.

Thankfully the child was stabilised and reated at the hospital before returning home.

Dublin Fire Brigade said that they were taking the incident ‘very seriously’.

“Dublin Fire Brigade takes this incident very seriously and has launched an investigation into the incident. This includes making an enquiry with the manufacturer of the ambulance to identify what might have caused the ambulance to break down, and to safeguard against the potential for a similar incident taking place again in another ambulance of that make,” the spokesperson said.
