The kids may not be thinking about going back to school just yet, but the parents certainly are.

The price of going back to school is one that haunts us every summer. There are just so many things to buy- uniforms, books, stationery, school bags, shoes- the list goes on and on and on.


A new report has revealed just how much it costs to send a child to a non-fee paying secondary school and the result may surprise you.

They shared that it costs an average of €1,236.

 



One of the biggest expenses for parents in Ireland is grinds, which tend to cost an average of €279.


School lunches also cost parents a small fortune, with parents splashing out €177 on average for lunch.
 

The study, which was conducted by Zurich Life Assurance, found that 34 percent of parents with children in secondary school have faced financial difficulties over school costs, including debt.
 



Parents with kids in primary school have also been heavily affected by the sheer cost of sending your kids to school in Ireland. One in every five parents admitted that school costs caused financial stress in their families.

It costs an average of €600 to send a child to a non-fee paying primary school. Extra-curricular activities like sports and drama clubs are costing parents the most at €191 per kid.

Uniforms will set parents back an average of €71, and books tend to cost an average of €88 per child.
