Kids born in THIS month are likey to do better in school, says study

Does your birthday affect how well you do in school?

It might sound crazy but a study has looked into it and found that it might.

The study, called School Starting Age and Cognitive Development, was published in the National Bureau of Economic Research and looked at the development of 1.2 million American public school children attending classes in Florida, aged between six and 15-years-old.

The study found that kids who were born in September, on average had higher yearly school results than those born in other months.

And researchers found that children who had August birthdays performed worse than children born in other months of the year.

Factors that affect how well children do in school, including their mothers’ education and the family's financial situation was also taken into account.

It has been suggested that the age at which a child starts school has a positive effect on their schooling, as older children are likely to perform better.

So this could give a boost over time giving children born in September a head start on their peers.

The study did note however that kids who appeared to be underperforming did tend to catch up in later years.
