A mum of a 10-year-old boy threatened with a knife at a Dublin school has spoken out about her fear for her son.

The incident occurred at St. Philip’s National School in West Dublin when one of the students brought in a knife and threatened another student with it after school.

Luckily, the boy was not harmed as a parent intervened before things could go from bad to much worse.

The victim’s mum has now spoken out about her terror at her son’s safety, saying: “My boy could have been killed here. It could have been much worse. I just want my child to be safe in school. I got a call from the school an hour after it happened. That is far too long.”

She also described how something needs to be done in order to prevent something like this from happening again: “Children should not be able to bring knives into the school. We want our children to be safe in school.”

As the authorities were not notified about the incident, which happened last Friday, parents were angry to hear about it through FM104’s Phone Show with Chris Barry.

A rep for the school has defended their actions, saying: “The principal has been instructed not to speak about what happened. Instead, there’s an investigation underway involving the gardai and the Board of Management at the school. That’s all we can say at this moment in time. All relevant bodies have been notified at this point.”
