While each new school year brings a promise of excitement and anticipation, for many Irish families who are struggling to meet back to school costs it also brings about a sense of unease and anxiety.

Our research revealed that the cost of equipping children with the required uniform can be financially crippling for many Irish parents, with 88% of those surveyed asserting they feel it is unreasonable for schools to request that students sport a school-specific, crest-emblazoned uniform when a generic uniform will suffice.

Despite efforts on the part of former Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore and former Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairi Quinn, to implement change in this regard, little has been done to lift the financial burden from the shoulders of Irish parents.

While alternatives have been touted in the past, it appears the needs and concerns of Irish families are falling on deaf ears, but we’re determined our community of parents is heard once and for all.

By launching the Can the Crest campaign, MummyPages is standing alongside parents seeking change and is calling on the government to enforce new uniform regulations which could save Irish families hundreds of euro on their annual back to school costs.

By allowing parents to stitch the school crest onto a generic uniform, the financial strain that invariably accompanies a child's return to school wil be eased considerably.

If you feel as strongly about this issue as we do, then we urge you to get involve with the MummyPages ‘Can the Crest campaign by visiting on our Can the Crest petition and voting yes to the policy.

The results of this petition wil be presented to the Department of Education and Skills on behalf of MummyPages online parenting community.

Take the stress out of the annual back to school routine by allowing your voice to be heard!
