We have previously reported on some very questionable punishments carried out in schools in the States, and this latest story has left many parents feeling very angry and frustrated.

An elementary school in Oregon, US has come in for major criticism after management threatened parents who are late in picking up their children at home-time.

Parents received a letter home from Swegle Elementary School in Salem, informing them that management would be contacting the Department of Human Services (DHS) if they are late collecting their kids.

“Children must be picked up on time. If they are not picked up on time, we will call DHS and you will then have to pick them up at court the next day,” the letter read.

Another line read: “Please do not drop your children off before 7.40am. There will not be any supervision. If children are dropped off before 7.40, the staff will call the authorities.”

The letter entered the public forum after a disgruntled mother shared it on her Facebook page.

“Anyone else think this is crazy?! Way too extreme!” wrote Chelsea Eichenauer, whose five-year-old son Mason is set to start school at Swegle in September.
