Police in Australia are this week searching for the perpetrators of a theft with a rather unique set of circumstances.

According to reports, four masked men broke into Taminmin College, near Darwin, to steal computer equipment - and let three crocodiles loose in the building.

CCTV footage recorded the men pushing the crocs through a broken window in the school, then entering the building themselves, on Sunday night.

They are said to have made off with a computer monitor and left the three creatures behind.

When authorities arrived on the scene, they found the animals severely ‘malnourished’, with their mouths taped shut.

Thought to have been stolen from a nearby farm, the crocodiles showed signs of not having been in the water for quite some time.

The animals were taken to safety, and local police have launched an investigation to get to the bottom of the bizarre incident.

If and when they are found, the masked men will be facing fines of up to $50,000 (around €34,000) for animal cruelty.

Thank heavens the police got to the scene before any students or teachers got hurt.
