Earlier this week, we reported how a police officer had left a four-year-old child in tears, and today we have another similar incident to share.

A mum has spoken of how her young daughter was left in tears after being mocked by her deputy head teacher.

According to the Mirror, six-year-old Alicia Blanco-Clements was left devastated after being called “pirate girl” by the teacher, over wearing an eye-patch.

Alicia’s mum Aimee told the paper that her daughter had initially feared mockery from her classmates over the patch, which is in place due to a severe visual impairment.

However, it was the deputy head teacher of Essex’s Springfield Primary School, Jona Davies, who passed the first cruel comment, in front of a packed assembly hall.

Alicia’s older sister, 11-year-old Olivia, recalled: “My sister was queuing in the wrong place and that’s when Mr Davies called her ‘pirate girl’. He forgot her name and so he was trying to get her attention.”

Needless to say, the incident has left both Alicia and mum Aimee very upset.

“Alicia is normally smiling from ear-to-ear when I pick her up from school, but on Wednesday she was really solemn and I could tell she was upset…I couldn’t believe that someone with such authority could be so ignorant and insensitive,” said the midwife.

Since news of the incident broke, a representative from the school has issued an apology to Alicia and her family.

Head teacher Sharon Tyler said: “We accept that what was said was inappropriate and have apologised unreservedly to the pupil and her parents. While the comment was not malicious or intended to cause offence, the teacher in question has been reminded of our expectations.”
