Tesco Ireland boosts support for children & families through Stronger Starts Schools Programme

Top of the class: Tesco Ireland doubles number of children and families receiving weekly supports through Stronger Starts Schools Programme

Tesco Ireland has doubled the number of DEIS primary schools nationwide receiving supports from its Stronger Starts schools programme, months ahead of schedule.

Rosemary Garth (Tesco Ireland Communications Director),
Ruby Gilligan (aged 6) and Michael O’Brien (aged 7)

Every week of the school term, 5,400 children in 240 DEIS primary schools are now receiving free, fresh food packs containing a mix of seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables including apples, onions, potatoes, and carrots. Doubling the number of schools involved means hundreds more primary school children and their families are getting help to make and create healthier meal solutions at home.

The Tesco Stronger Starts school programme began as a pilot in 2021, providing food packs to children in just 40 DEIS schools, and has grown rapidly since.
