We know that despite their diminutive size, head lice are strong creatures. Not only can they survive for up to two days off the human head and for eight hours underwater, but now they’re also becoming resistant to many head lice treatments.

In fact a study from Southern Illinois University has shown that lice in at least 25 US states have now become genetically resistant to permethrin, a pesticide widely used in popular head lice treatments.

And while parents are now moving on to treatments containing other ingredients like the parasitic medication ivermectin, there is worry that lice will eventually become resistant to that too.

So what’s a parent to do?

Well thankfully there is an alternative to killing lice with pesticides. Hedrin, the ground-breaking head lice treatment doesn’t use an insecticide; it uses dimeticone, a silicone preparation which doesn’t poison the lice. Instead, it penetrates their water and air passages, stopping them from getting rid of excess water and causing them to rupture and die.

And even if the lice don’t rupture, Hedrin makes them immobile, so they will be unable to feed off the scalp and will starve to death.

So you can  confidently use Hedrin as many times as you like without causing resistance.

As well as this, Hedrin is odourless, gentle enough for use on babies as young as six months (as well as being suitable for adults) and doesn’t contain any solvents that might cause problems for kids with asthma.

And it works. A clinical trial conducted on 36 children on Turkey in April and May 2008 showed that Hedrin is 97 per cent effective in eradicating head lice.

Hedrin’s range includes sprays and solutions that are super easy to use and wash out easily, leaving no residue, as well as Protect & Go, a preventative spray that disrupts the life cycle of head lice, preventing an infestation from occurring.
