The daughter of a man who had his sentence tripled yesterday after being found guilty of sexually abusing her for almost a decade has opened up about her father's increased jail time.

The clearly overjoyed Fiona Doyle said: "Look at me - I'm smiling!"

Speaking candidly about her father Patrick O' Brien who was found guilty of raping and abusing his daughter from 1973 until 1982, the 48-year-old mum said: "This morning, we locked up a monster."

Fiona admits that she had buried much of what happened to her and hid it from her children, but she has now decided to make public the traumatic events which took place during her childhood.

She admits: "I always held back on the gory details in respect of my children; I didn't want them to know what was done to their mammy. Now I will tell the world I was raped and abused by my dad."

Fiona hopes that something positive will come of the abuse she suffered and plans to establish 'The Fiona Doyle Foundation', saying: "I want to buy a house and use it as a centre for victims to talk to each other."

Commenting on the fact her father's prison sentence was tripled on appeal, Fiona said: "The court gave my dad what he deserved."
