Plastic bottles of fizz, water or even milk can clog up your recycling bin when empty. Instead of dumping them, why not put them to good use and do some arts and crafts with your little one.

Here are a few things you can make with them:

Flower lights
This one is particularly easy. All you need are old fairy lights and five or six bottles depending on how many bulbs there are.

What you’ll need:
6 bottles - It doesn’t matter if they are 250ml or larger so long as they are all the same size.
Old fairy lights
Scissors

Method:
Simply cut the bottom off so that it resembles flowers and discard the top part.
Cut a hole in the centre of each one and pop the fairy lights into it.
You can hang them up around their room for effect. Be careful the lights don’t get too hot and don’t leave them on for too long.

Wind spirals
These are fun and easy to make and look great in the garden.

What you’ll need:
4 large plastic bottles
Various paint pots
Glue
Glitter
Scissors
Stapler
String

Method:
Cut the bottom off the bottles so that they stand up right. Keep one for later.
Decorate using the paint, glue and glitter. Allow to dry before doing anything further.
When dry, use the scissors to cut up the bottle in a spiral shape. Go right up to the top. Do this with all four bottles.
Cut a hole in the centre of the bottle bottom and tie the string through.
Staple the swirls to the sides and hang up in the garden.

Monsters
This one is great fun and your little one’s imagination can really go wild doing these up.

What you’ll need:
4 plastic bottles
Various paints
Card paper, various colours
Glue
Scissors

Method:
Cut the bottom and top off the bottle.
Use the paints to create various monsters using the paint pots. Allow to dry.
Cut the card into arms, legs, hair and eyes.
Cut small slits into the bottle where you will be putting the arms and legs. Pop them through the slots.
Glue the eyes on and use the stapler to secure the hair.
