How can I teach my 2 year old not to run away from me?

When a toddler begins to run away from a parent, it can create dangerous situations for the child. But, when you’re out for several hours, it’s difficult to keep them strapped into a stroller. They get bored and need to move around. There are alternatives and ways you can quell your toddler’s desire to run from you.

When you have a long day out, such as a visit to the city zoo or a shopping mall, try alternating the use of the stroller and walking. Allow your toddler to walk holding your hand in areas where they is no potential for danger or no crowds. Once he has ran out some of his energy, he won’t mind going back in the stroller.

Alternatively, there are many child harnesses on the market that you can use. Many parents feel that using a harness is demeaning to a child, but experts agree that a harness does no harm and your child will be safer in public places. If you decide to try a harness, explain what it is to your child and why you need to use it. Also, let your child help you pick it out. There are some harnesses now that look just like a child’s backpack with furry animals or colourful designs.
