Children all sleep in different ways; some will fall into a deep sleep almost straight away while other children will sleep fretfully for the first 20 to 30 minutes before falling into a deep sleep.

While adults sleep in cycles of 90 minutes, children’s sleep cycles only last about 40 minutes which means that each cycle consists of deep sleep followed by a short period of waking and a period of light sleep.

For the first half of their night’s sleep, a large percentage of your child’s sleep is deep but towards morning this will change and almost 80% of your child’s sleep will consist of light sleep which is why it’s easier to be woken in the morning than it is during the night.
