Young Alex is still in school, but he has the confidence of someone well beyond his years.

As part of the summer programme at Camp Aranu'tiq, a project for transgender children, Alex took to the stage to share his experience about coming out to his mother aged just seven.

The inspiring youngster wrote a rap with the help of his mum, which he performed to an audience at the camp. It starts, "So I had a little story I'd like to share about something I went through that might seem pretty weird. Please try and imagine if this was you or you might have something that you can relate it to."

Alex's story of coming out has had almost 50,000 views so far on YouTube, and finishes with the wise words, "Please treat everyone the way you expect. We all deserve freedom, love and respect."
