Being one of your child’s biggest influencers is a huge responsibility that mums have to take on as soon as their little arrives. And while most of us do our best to ensure we not only keep them happy and safe but give them the best possible start in life, we can unconsciously do a few things that don't set a very good example.

Here are ten things you need to stop doing in front of your toddler, or at all...

1. Throwing rubbish on the ground

You should never throw anything on the pavement, but especially so when you have a toddler with you - they will see you do it and assume it is ok.

2. Cross the road without looking

Your little one looks at you to know how to act in certain situations, so don’t ever let them catch you walking across the road without looking left and right first.

3. Not wearing a helmet

How are you meant to teach your child about safety if you aren’t leading by a good example yourself?

4. Tell a lie

It can be hard not to let a little white lie slip out every now and then but never do it in front of your child, they’ll just do it back.

5. Being mean to someone

No mum wants to witness their innocent little son or daughter being mean or nasty to another person, so never let them think it is acceptable.

6. Sticking out your tongue at someone

In the heat of a moment some mums can find themselves sticking out their tongue rather than say  a bad word. However, unless it’s meant in a really cute way, avoid letting your tot see you do it – they’ll do it as well.

7. Be rude

While it is important you always remember to use your manners when talking to anyone, it is especially vital when your toddler is in the vicinity.

8. Lose your cool

Help your child learn to control their own emotions by keeping your cool in heated moments. While it is easy to lose your temper when provoked it is so important you try to stay as calm as possible to showcase to your tot how they can handle their emotions.

9. Putting yourself down

Never let your child hear you criticise your appearance or put yourself down. As mums we need to teach our children to love their body from a young age.

10. Be violent

Never, ever express violence in front of your toddler – they will see this as being acceptable, which it’s not.
