There is nothing worse when after spending the day apart you are met with one worded 'yes', 'fine' or 'no' answers when enquiring about your child’s day. But while you may be interested in what they got up to in school, think about it, would you like anyone asking you questions on how work went? Probably not.
So, instead of asking ‘how was school, today?’ ask these instead – you are more likely to get a full sentence out of them and they will at least give you an insight into their day.

- ‘What was the nicest part of your lunch?’
- ‘Tell me the weirdest thing you did today’
- ‘Was your teacher happy today?’
- ‘What was your favourite part of today?’
- ‘Was anyone out today?’
- ‘Did anyone do anything interesting over the weekend?’
- ‘Was anyone in your class in trouble?’
- ‘Tell me one thing you learnt today’
- ‘Do you learn any new tricks in P.E?’
- ‘Tell me one thing you learned today that I wouldn’t know about’
- ‘Did anyone get on your nerves today?’
- ‘Who forgot their lunch? Did you have to share yours?’
- ‘What did you do today that you didn’t do yesterday?’
- ‘I’d love you to show me a picture you drew today?’
- ‘Who got to read aloud in class today?’
- ‘What was the trickiest thing you achieved today?’
- ‘If I called your teacher tonight what would she say about you?’
- ‘Did any of your class friends do anything particularly nice for you?’
