The new school year is almost upon us and that means schoolbooks need to be covered.

There are many factors regarding the covering of schoolbooks that need to be considered, namely the cost, the quality and the appearance.

The covering of schoolbooks needs to be durable enough to last the school year intact and protecting the book whilst being cost-friendly.

Many children, in particular, teenagers, will want their book covering to be stylish too, so this may be something that also needs to be considered.

Here are some materials you can use to cover books that are both cost-efficient and effective:

1. Wallpaper
Many homes will have some spare wallpaper lying around from the last redecoration. If you do, it would make the perfect book covering as it is durable but still pliable, stylish and waste-free.

2. Brown paper
Brown paper makes a great book covering as it is often quite thick and sturdy. It can also be decorated by your child and is very cost-effective. You could also collect plain brown shopping bags that would also work to cover your child’s books.

3. Maps
Not many people use road maps anymore thanks to sat nav systems and modern technology. If you, like so many of us, have out of date road maps lying around at home, why not recycle them into stylish book covers?

4. Wrapping paper
Many mums will have rolls of wrapping paper around the house as kids go to so many birthday parties. If you have some wrapping paper that is not strictly birthday or holiday related, then it could be used to cover schoolbooks. Your kids will love all of the funky patterns their books will have and it won’t work out very expensive.

5. Fabric
Another option for covering those schoolbooks is cloth material. When you do a wardrobe clear-out, keep one or two items that have a pretty pattern, but are not of use to you anymore. You can use them to cover your kid’s books. The material won’t rip as easy as paper would, and is long-lasting.
