Superfoods are foods that are bursting with lots of wonderful health benefits. If you have a picky eater lurking in your home, even if you manage to get just one of these foods onto your kid’s plate-you will be doing well.
  1. Blueberries: Are bursting full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. These are all substances that slow the body’s release of chemicals that can damage cells. They help increase memory power, fight certain cancers and lower cholesterol levels. Fresh or frozen are both great choices.
  2. Oats: These wholegrains help prevent low and high blood sugar and help keep your child fuller for longer. They also help to remove bad cholesterol out of the body. Why not try serving oatmeal for breakfast topped with a handful of blueberries.  
  3. Salmon: This fish is a terrific source of omega 3-s which are good fats which help to lower cholesterol levels.  The nutrients found in salmon can also help improve memory.
  4. Sweet potatoes: These sweet tasting alternatives to potatoes are packed full of nutrients including vitamins B, C and E, calcium, potassium and iron. They are also a great source of fibre.
  5. Avocado: Avocadoes are the only form of fruit that are packed full of monounsaturated fats that can help to lower cholesterol.  They are also a great source of fibre which helps maintain a normal blood sugar level.
  6. Spinach: This green leafy vegetable is a wonderful source of iron, calcium and folic acid and vitamin A and C. It’s great for growing bones and brains.
  7. Yoghurt: High in calcium and protein, yoghurt will help build your child’s teeth and bones. It also helps with digestion and fights bad bacteria in the gut.
