Rob Delaney has sparked quite the important conversation about homework. The dad took to Twitter to express his disbelief at how much homework his seven-year-old son had.

“Why do they give 7-year-olds so much homework in the UK & how do I stop this?” he asked.

The Catastrophe star explained: “I want my kid frolicking & drawing & playing football. Who knows more about stopping this madness & can help me?”

Rob stressed that his son attends a great school, but can’t help but feel like the education system doesn’t cater for every child.

“Love our kids’ school & teachers (including heads) I just sense they’re being told to “teach to the test” just like in America, where people are obviously stupid,” he shared.

Parents were quick to respond to Rob, with many supporting his views on homework.

One user wrote: “The idea that homework at that age is the best use of their time is so insane. It causes stress, ruins evenings and for no real furthering of learning. Can you tell I’m against?”

A teacher supported the claims that homework is bad: “I don’t give homework, and I have consistently sent homework back to my kids’ schools not done.  Home time is family time, full stop.”

Another teacher replied: “I’m a teacher and would get rid of homework completion, even for secondary schools. Little ones should be playing with stuff, older kids should be playing with themselves. End of.”

Children are coming home with schoolbags that weigh a ton. They’re spending hours figuring out maths equations and practicing their spellings. They’re getting stressed out over revising for history tests and spelling tests.

Is it time to stop giving them homework? Or is there a positive side to it?
