In today’s social media world, it is easy for your child to lose their confidence or have a low self -image at a much younger age, making it so important that we give our kids a little boost.

Make sure your little one shines with positivity with the following tips:

1. Avoid past mistakes

Avoid bringing up past mistakes when discipling or correcting your child as they will struggle to move on if you keep talking about them. Everyone makes mistakes but it's how you handle them that really matters.

2. Encourage them to become little experts

Help your son or daughter to become an expert on a particular hobby so that they experience a sense of achievement and pride. This will greatly help them in situations where your child feels shy or anxious.

3. Never tell them that you are disappointed in them

A passing comment from you will affect your child more than you may realise. Avoid telling them that you are disappointed, particularly when they are feeling down about it already - remember to criticise the act not the person.

4. Tell them you are proud of them

Tell them that you are proud of something they have recently achieved, particularly when you know they are feeling sad and could do with a pick-me-up.

5. Never compare them to others

Every child is different and it is important you don’t compare one with another, especially siblings or close family members. If someone does make a comparison, point out that your little one is special in their own way, perhaps making a point of something they are incredibly proud of.

6. Set goals for them

Set little goals for your child that they can achieve to give them a little confidence boost. When they have completed it compliment them and tell them that you are proud of them. However, it is important you give them a goal that is attainable otherwise it will backfire in a negative way.

7. Make sure you see yourself in a positive light

If you are always putting yourself down - saying your bum looks big or that you don’t look nice in a particular outfit - your child will pick this up and start to believe it is ok to look at yourself in a negative light.
