A US mother has been sentenced to seven days in jail, after refusing to follow a court order to vaccinate her son.

Rebecca Bredow previously said that she was ‘willing to go to jail’ rather than be forced into vaccinating her child – and that’s exactly how her court case panned out, yesterday.

The Michigan mother was fighting a legal case brought by her ex-husband, Jason Horne. Horne stated that the pair had agreed to vaccinate their son, while still a couple.

After they split, however, Bredow reneged on the agreement, claiming that she was not comfortable with the prospect of her son receiving grouped vaccinations.

Bredow, who shares joint legal custody with Horne, was handed a court order instructing her to bring her son up to speed with his vaccinations by Wednesday of this week – or face punishment.

In response, Bredow held tough and claimed that Horne, in turn, had broken a verbal agreement to limit their son’s vaccinations.

With Bredow still refusing to bring her son for the vaccinations, she was yesterday sentenced to a week in jail.

The presiding Circuit Court judge said: “You agreed in a consent order to vaccinate your child. I understand you love your children; but what I don’t think you understand, is that your son has two parents – and Dad gets a say.

“You signed a waiver for vaccinations without Dad’s consent. And you’ve repeatedly stated over the past several days publicly that you will not follow this court order.

“So, I am sentencing you to seven days in jail.”

There are no laws in the US compelling parents to get their children vaccinated; this case came down to a breach of a legal agreement between both parents.
