A five-year-old boy was killed in a farming accident in Ferbane, Co. Offaly yesterday afternoon.
Apparently the little boy had jumped off a tractor, which was being driven by his father, to chase some pheasants out of the way. It is reported that he then lay down in the field and was invisible to his father when he did a second lap.
He was rushed to Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore but was later pronounced dead.
An investigation by the Garda and HSA (Healthy and Safety Authority) has been launched as it is standard practice for work place accidents.
Our thoughts go out to the family at this awful time.
