Before school kids can really get into the festive spirit they need to get over their Christmas exams first. While this is the season for fun and laughter, if your youngster is sitting tests, whether important or not, they are going to be stressed out until they are over.

However, with your help they can get through the stress without going into meltdown.

Feed them a good diet

It is vitally important you give your child a well balanced diet. While they might stress that they don’t have time to eat, it is up to you to ensure they do. If they are not getting the right nutrients they will struggle to concentrate and take things in.

Don’t interfere

Don’t tell your child to study, put notes away or get involved, unless they ask you to. While their desk might look messy to you, they know where everything is and moving things around will only cause them unnecessary stress. The same goes for getting on their back about study - they know what they have to do

Offer your help

The best way you can help your child is to give them a quiet place to study free from any distractions and to relieve them of their household chores until the exams are over.

Check their exam date and time

Make sure you know when and where their exams are so that they won’t miss them. They are going to be extremely stressed so you will need to give them a helping hand, making sure they don't miss it.

Have their favourite foods in the house

Stock your home with plenty of their favourite comfort foods as a treat for them and to ensure they eat properly.

Talk about what they are studying

Talk to your youngster about what they are studying to not only show that you are there for them but to help them remember what it is they have learned.

Just be there for them

Check in on them every now and then, without interfering or getting in the way. Popping your head around the corner and asking if they need help, food or a drink will break up long study sessions.
