Your home is probably adequately child proofed. However, whenever you travel with your child, you will need to ensure that the room you’re staying in is safe too.

The best way to ensure that the room you’re staying in is safe, is to take a multi level approach.
First, make enquiries when you make your booking. Some hotels have child proofing equipment on hand, while others don’t. If the hotel you’re staying in doesn’t, then you’ll need to make arrangements to bring your own with you. Some hotels will offer some, but not all equipment, and others will even childproof the room you’re staying in for you, at your request. In addition to standard child proofing equipment, take basics like duct tape with you. It can be used to cover electrical sockets, or to tape padding to sharp corners.

Try to find a hotel room that’s on the ground floor, and if you cannot, make sure that you check the lock on any balcony doors or windows. When you arrive, make sure you make a thorough inspection of the room. Get on your hands and knees and inspect the floor, in case there’s something your child could swallow, and look in drawers, cabinets and the bathroom for anything that might be dangerous.
