We all know kids are resourceful and can think of logical solutions to problems from quite a young age. This amusing story is further proof of this.

Police found a five-year-old boy determinedly pedalling his toy tractor towards a petrol station late at night. The officers found the boy at about 9 pm and carried out a “traffic stop”.

When the concerned officers in the town of Ingolstadt, Germany, asked the boy where he was off to so late, the child simply explained: "Petrol station. Oil run out!"

What a resourceful little guy, we wonder if he brought his pocket money to pay for his petrol.

The police took the youngster to the police station until they found out where he lived. The intrepid young adventurer was eventually returned home to his mother, who hadn’t realised he’d gone missing. He’d slipped out a window after she had put him to bed.

North Upper Bavaria Police posted the story in to their Facebook page. It’s since received over a hundred shares and provoked amused reactions from Facebook users.

One comment on the police's Facebook page enquired whether the little boy’s engine woes were solved, saying: "And? Was the oil successfully topped up?"

They went on to express concern that the engine may be frozen up.The police replied: "All good! Running like it's freshly oiled".

Another complimented the police on their sensitive approach of apprehending the boy without scaring him. "You are awesome!” they wrote. To which the police replied: "We'll pass that on! Thanks a lot!"

A third member of the public expressed relief that the little boy made it safely home: "Good work. Great friends and helpers. Good that nothing happened to the little man.”

And he’s not the only automobile-loving tot that’s been pulled over by the cops. Last year in Philadelphia, an eight-month-old was pulled over by traffic police after running a stop sign in her hot pink pedal car.

"Not being able to read really isn't an excuse - but nice try," the police department wrote.

Glad the little lad got home safely – hopefully the police encounter will deter him from trying this again.
