We have heard a number of stories of alarming behaviour by school teachers in recent times, but this latest report is undoubtedly one of the most shocking.

An investigation is currently underway after claims emerged that students of a school in Wiltshire, England, were repeatedly forced to lie face-down on the floor and listen to their head teacher pretending to telephone God to say they had been naughty.

Angry parents first drew attention to the shocking humiliation that their children claimed to have experienced at St Joseph’s Roman Catholic primary school, prompting watchdog Ofsted to launch an investigation.

Commenting after the story came to media attention, one parent expressed her alarm at the shocking treatment her child experienced.

Tammy Brimble, mother of 11-year-old student Cyrus, said: “When he told me what had happened to him and three other boys, I was upset. It was distressing for my son for her to call on God like that.”

The teacher in question has reportedly not been suspended, although an official investigation has been launched by the Wiltshire council.

A spokesperson for the council said in a statement: “We have received a letter from Ofsted and we are looking into the concerns raised.”
