A 13-year-old girl, who disappeared nearly five years ago, has been reunited with her overjoyed mum.

Jodie Borchert, from Florida in the US, had not seen her daughter Cara Cox since she dropped her little girl off with her dad, Aaron Cox, for a weekend visit in 2009.

Jodie's ex-partner reportedly abducted his daughter and fled the country.

Since 2009, police have searched for the pair but they had no solid leads for years.

However, police got a tip-off that the pair was in the remote area of Mexico.

Working with authorities from Mexico, police were able to find and arrest the dad and recover his daughter.

Police said the pair had been living under assumed names while living in Mexico.

After the man’s arrest, Cara was flown back to Miami at the weekend to be with her mum for the first time in over four years.

“The mother was waiting, anxiously waiting here in Miami for the plane to touch down and for her to finally meet her daughter after all these years,” Brandon Haught of the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said.

Cara's father was jailed on a charge of interfering with custody and is awaiting extradition to Florida.
