The mother of a little boy who died after being knocked down by a vehicle is beginning the first night of her three-day vigil outside Leinster House.

Roseann Brennan, whose 6-year-old son Jake died outside his home in Co,Kilkenny last June, is appealing to the government to lower the speed limit from 50 kph to 20 kph in residential areas.

Opening up about the grief she has struggled with since Jake's death, heartbroken Roseann says: "If I smile, I worry if anyone saw me smiling because I think ‘maybe they will think that I have gotten over it’ -  but I haven’t gotten over it."

Roseann is joined by a group of supporters who will be camping outside the Dáil until Wednesday.

Our thoughts are with Roseann and her family.
