The kids are just about ready to head back to school (boo!), but we are still chasing our tails trying to get everything sorted, from book lists and uniforms, to stationery.

We love a good DIY hack, especially if it makes preparing the lunches that little bit easier – which is why we are definitely going to be borrowing this one!

The Bento box is the coolest lunch phenomenon of recent times, and it’s the perfect way to serve up a variation of different foods in one go. So, how would you feel about creating your own – super-easily and super-cheaply?

Queensland mum blogger Amanda Hale recently shared her tip, and it has gone viral ever since being posted on the Rough Diamond Facebook page.

“Just a wee bit of genius from [Amanda],” reads the caption, beneath a collage featuring her homemade Bento box.

The box has been created simply by sitting a giant ice cube tray into a large lunchbox. Each individual cube serves as a pocket for a different type of food, and is big enough to hold a decent-sized portion.

Amanda’s creation is able to hold a selection of fruit, meat, cheese, sweet potato, and crackers for her little one – and it’s super-convenient for little fingers, too!

The hack has been praised by mums all over the internet, with many of them taking to the comment section to share their own DIY lunchbox hacks.

“Small fishing tackle/bait boxes…are also very good, cheap alternatives. The sides go all the way up,” wrote one mother.

Others pointed out some of the shortcomings of Amanda’s creation, however.

“Pity there’s nowhere to put a sandwich or wrap in this as well. Great idea, though,” replied another.

We don’t know about you, mums, but we will definitely be giving this a go – once we manage to track down a giant ice cube tray, that is!
