With the General Election just weeks away now, the parties have begun to roll out their manifestos. As the countdown gets underway, one organisation hoping to make a major impact on politicians, schools and families across the Republic of Ireland.

EQUATE, a children’s organisation advocating for change in primary and secondary education in the State, has unveiled its new campaign: ‘Open the School Gates’.

School admissions policies have come under major scrutiny in recent times, and EQUATE is targeting reform in this area through its website, video advert and canvassing cards.

EQUATE wants to see major changes in how the admissions system works and, subsequently, how it impacts on our children and communities.

The organisation’s website has made it easy for those who support its campaign to help make a difference. Through a special tool on the site, each candidate in your constituency will receive an email asking them to:

  • work for change to the admissions process so that no child can be refused because of their religion;
  • work to reform the school day so that all children can participate in all classes regardless of their religion;
  • campaign for a greater number of multi- and non-denominational schools.

EQUATE has also created a special canvassing card outlining the three major changes they want political parties to support in General Election 2016.
