Officials in the Monessen School District of Pennsylvania have come under fire following the distribution of an ill-advised English exercise

Parents of thirteen and fourteen-year-old students were horrified to learn that their children were subjected to erotic material in the form of a wordsearch.

The search which appears to be inspired by best-selling novel Fifty Shades of Grey included words like 'submissive', 'leather cuffs', 'intercourse' and ' bondage'.

The exercise has shocked parents demanding answers from school officials.

Bringing the issue to a school board meeting on Tuesday this week, parents were told that officials are unsure who distributed the offending articles nor do they know how many students received one.

Superintendent Leanne Spazak has advised concerned parents that the incident is under investigation.

This is not the first time outraged parents have complained about inappropriate school material in recent months.
