As anyone who has been at the helm of a school will tell you, your decisions do not always go down well with the parents, and this is something that one principal is learning the hard way.

The outraged parents of students attending Henley Green Primary School in Coventry, UK have launched a petition for principal Joanne Murphy to step down on account of her controversial policies.

Ms Murphy has come under fire for allegedly fining parents who arrive late to pick their children up, as well as abolishing an after school club that was described as “the perfect way for working parents to leave their child in a safe environment”.

In the petition’s description, which is featured on change.org, angry parents also claim that Ms Murphy has been turning a blind eye to staff smoking near the school gates – something which, they feel, is unacceptable.

Ms Murphy’s policies were previously brought to the attention of local newspaper the Coventry Telegraph. Addressing the criticism against her, she insisted that the fining system was a necessary step in order to prevent certain parents from taking advantage of the school.
