Many of you have no doubt been up since the early morning with your teen, waiting for their first round offer from the CAO.
The good news this morning, is that the points tally required for entry into more than half of honours degree courses around the country has fallen.
The drop in allotted points for courses is said to be down to a mixture of changes in exam grading (with the introduction of a new eight-point system) as well as the points system, itself.
Areas which experienced the greatest drop in points include engineering, nursing and teaching. On the other end of the scale, however, courses in law and business experienced an increase along with architecture and construction.
As for the most popular choice of course? Well, there’s little surprise there – our young people still have a very keen interest in the Arts.
Lol the amount of people that set alarms for 6am to see their offers.. I was rudely awoken by a message at 10am from the CAO

According to RTÉ, around 52,000 applicants across Ireland receive a third-level offer this morning. A whopping 10,000 applicants had already accepted an offer shortly after 6am.
Applicants will now have until next Monday, August 28, to accept their first round offer.
If you’re interested in finding out more about the CAO process, or if you and your teen have a query, log onto the Central Applications Office website.
To everyone getting ready to accept, or waiting on an offer; good luck!
