Welcoming a new addition to the family is a wonderful thing, but it certainly does come with its fair share of challenges – something which you all know only too well by now.

Amid late nights, early rises, nappy changes, teething trouble and tears, Johnson’s has revealed the number one challenge facing Irish parents of children under the age of one: lack of sleep.

This was the finding in new research commissioned on behalf of the makers of Johnson’s baby products, with Ireland’s mums and dads clearly having a tough time with sleep deprivation.

With over one-third (36%) of children experiencing sleep problems, an unsettled baby was found to be the top reason for parents losing valuable snooze time.

The revelation comes as Johnson’s launch their Tonight We Sleep campaign, which is highlighting the importance of starting and maintaining an effective bedtime routine for your baby.

For those parents who can identify all too well with the respondents of this survey, there is a solution in sight – Johnson’s Tonight We Sleep routine.

This routine, outlined below, has been proven to help babies to fall asleep faster and stay asleep for longer.

With a staggering 38% of babies awaking less frequently, and a further 32% spending less time awake after using the Tonight We Sleep routine, it is most definitely worth a try.

The routine goes as follows:

1. Bath: A bedtime routine, including a warm bath, helps Baby know it is time to sleep.

2. Massage: A massage, as part of a bedtime routine, can help Baby sleep better. Familiar and pleasant scents can make Baby feel happy and relaxed, and lead to better well-being by enhancing Baby’s mood and emotions.

3. Quiet Time: The moments before bed are an opportunity to help Baby wind down through quiet-time activities such as reading, singing or listening to music.
