A very brave schoolboy jumped into the path of a dog when it tried to attack his mum and baby brother.

11-year-old Jack MacKay suffered injuries to his head and arm when he tried to protect his family from the large dog, believed to be a bull mastiff.

The youngster has had to undergo plastic surgery to repair the damage to his face.

The schoolboy was attacked near his home at Eltham, south London, earlier this month, when the dog slipped its lead.

Yesterday his mother Lacy Farlam, 29, told how her son stepped in when the animal started attacking her.

The mum-of-four said, “I was holding my eight-month-old baby Jacob and it was jumping up at me to get to him, biting at my side.

“I kicked the dog off of me to save my baby. So, to get the dog of me and my baby, Jack screamed so the dog charged at him instead.

“It had him on the floor and starting biting at his face and arm.”

Jack’s dad Martin rushed to his son’s aid, chasing the dog into a neighbour’s hallway where it was finally brought under control.

His mum added, “I think he deserves an award for what he’s done. He thought fast to get that dog away from my baby.”
