In the past ten years there has been a change in the provision of special education in schools in Ireland. The Department of education and science has issued several directives and guidelines in relation to policy, provision, structure and supports and the provision of special education at primary level is developing at a rapid pace there is still some room for improvement in secondary schools.
 
The support that is available to primary level children is not as extensive in secondary schools so it is important to know what to look out for when selecting a school.
