From locking one child into a 'focus' room, to isolating another for being late to class, we have recently come across some shocking cases of school punishments taken to unacceptable extremes.

This week, another such story has made headlines all over the world – this time from China.

According to reports today, a Chinese teacher has been fired for stapling a four-year-old pupil’s ear over ‘misbehaving’ in her class.

Teacher Lan Ji is said to have lost her temper when little Feng Wu began acting out in class, and she resorted to shocking measures to teach him a lesson in front of his fellow classmates.

When the child’s parents discovered what had happened – when he cried out during bathtime at home – they brought him to a local hospital for treatment. His ear was found to be bruised and badly swollen before doctors successfully removed the staple.

When questioned by school management, Ms Ji admitted to the horrific incident and was fired from her post at the Jiangle County-based school. The school’s education board has also agreed to pay for the child’s treatment.

Ms Ji is also now being investigated by authorities. Depending on the outcome, she may be charged with child cruelty or assault.
