In a world where disturbing reports on the treatment of young children are constantly doing the rounds, this latest story is one of the most heartwarming we have ever heard.

A group of elementary school teachers have come in for major praise this week, after a photo of a male teacher walking his students home from school went viral.

Local resident Tabitha Tudy Jones came across the following heartwarming scene outside her window, and decided to share what she witnessed with the world.

Uploading a shot of teacher Carl Schneider walking with a group of young students to Facebook, Tabitha wrote: “Coming from the Post Office on Whitney & Baskin I saw this teacher walking his students home…(more students lagging behind) Woooow! Big UPS to this teacher! Just found out his name is Mr Schneider.”

Conversing in the comment section beneath her post, Tabitha added: “I didn’t think this was part of the job description, but it’s so sweet that he goes above and beyond for the children. This made my heart GLAD to witness his compassion toward the children…it takes a village.”

It has since emerged that Schneider is one of five teachers from Whitney Achievement Elementary who volunteer each day to walk home with the 200 students who live within a mile or two of the school.

Along with fellow teachers Kevin Sullivan, Auriel Rolle-Polk, Allison Thompson and Valeria Bostick, Schneider goes out of his way to ensure that each child gets home safe and sound.

Commenting on the viral status of the photo to local media, Schneider was modest as he said: “This is just part of my routine, and it’s something that I look forward to, so I was kind of surprised.”
